A Long Beach middle school was locked down on Monday when students thought they saw a man with a gun. Police did not the man, but it was quite the emotional ride for students and staff. Angie Crouch reports from Long Beach for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2013.
Bancroft Middle School was locked down in Long Beach Monday afternoon after what school district officials described as a report of an "unauthorized person" on campus.
The school was locked down -- students remained in their classrooms -- at about 11:30 a.m. after a report of an "unauthorized person on campus," according to a school district spokesman.
At least 12 squad cars were at the location. An LA County Sheriff's Department airship was circling above the campus, located at 5301 Centralia Street (map). A canine unit also responded to the school.
"We've been conducting a thorough search of the campus, but haven't found any such unauthorized person on campus," said school district spokesman Chris Eftychiou.
The lockdown was lifted early Monday afternoon.
