A Santa Ana bicyclist was struck in a hit and run after two cars were allegedly street racing. Vikki Vargas reports for the NBC4 News on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016.
A 20-year-old man was behind bars on suspicion of involvement in a possible racing-related, hit-and-run collision that left a bicyclist fighting for his life Friday, a Santa Ana police corporal said.
Christopher Rosalino Carrasco of Garden Grove surrendered to police a couple of hours after the Thursday night collision involving his 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
"Witnesses say two (vehicles) were racing -- detectives are going to have to look into that," Bertagna said.
The 48-year-old critically injured victim was undergoing surgery Friday morning, Bertagna said.
His name was not released.
The collision occurred just before 9:40 p.m. Thursday on northbound Fairview Street, north of a riverbed, Bertagna said.
Witnesses told investigators the pickup truck was racing with a black Honda Accord on Fairview from Civic Center Drive, he said.

"They didn't stop, obviously they didn't get out to check," Bertagna said. "Both sped off and ran a red light to get away."
When Carrasco arrived home, he told his sister what happened, Bertagna said.
"She told him, get in your car, go back and turn yourself in to the police, which he did two hours later," Bertagna said. "His sister did the right thing."
