Body Found on 10 Freeway Exit Ramp in Pomona

The body was found on the White Avenue exit ramp from the eastbound 10 Freeway

The victim’s family members arrived at the site of a freeway shooting Wednesday morning in Pomona. Annette Arreola reports for the NBC4 News at Noon on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2013.

The body of a shooting victim was found Wednesday morning inside a car parked on a freeway exit ramp in Pomona.

The exit ramp from the eastbound 10 Freeway at White Avenue was closed early Wednesday after the discovery. A California Highway Patrol officer noticed the car on the side of the exit ramp.

"(The victim) had gunshot wounds to the upper torso area," said Steve Congalton, of the Pomona Police Department.

The victim was identified late Wednesday morning as Michael Anthony Meza, of Pomona.

Investigators said it was not immediately clear where the shooting occurred. Detectives told NBC4 they are investigating whether the victim was the only vehicle occupant at the time of the shooting.

Two men at the location who identified themselves as the victim's uncle and father told NBC4 detectives were at the family's Pomona home.

The ramp (map) remained closed during the investigation.
