The sexual assault allegedly occurred at Roosevelt High School Sept. 25 after school hours in a campus bathroom, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

UPDATE: Boys Accused of On-Campus Sex Assault Released From Custody

A high school administrator contacted police immediately after being told about the sexual assault, sheriff's officials said.

"The investigation led to the arrest of two juvenile males," the statement said.

The boys were booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Detention Center for "multiple felony sexual assault-related charges," the statement said.

The attack was believed to have been isolated and all of the involved victims and suspects have been found, the statement said.

Because all of those involved are juveniles, their identities were not released.

Students told NBC4 that one of the accused is a junior varsity football player and the other is a former student who was recently kicked out of school for a prank against his peer.

Students said the alleged victim is a freshman girl, and the alleged perpetrators are a 15-year-old sophomore and a 16-year-old junior.

They face one count each of statutory rape, sodomy by force in concert, felony sexual battery and oral copulation by force, said John Hall, spokesman for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

Investigators said their evidence is solid and they are confident the girl is telling the truth. But on campus Wednesday, some students doubted the charges.

"They're good guys and they're funny guys to be around. I don't think they could ever be that dumb enough to do it, especially on campus," said one girl.

The boys are scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning. That court appearance will not be open to the public because the alleged victim wants it to remain private, Hall said.
