Caltrans Starts $10 Million I-5 Repair

Work will be done along both directions of the 5 Freeway between the 210 and 118

Caltrans announced Wednesday that work has begun on a $10 million project to replace rough sections of pavement along a 4.5-mile stretch of the Golden State (5) Freeway between Sylmar and Pacoima.

The work will be done along both directions of the 5 Freeway between the Foothill (210) and Ronald Reagan (118) freeways, and is expected to be completed by December.

That section of freeway has an average daily traffic volume of more than 200,000 vehicles, according to Caltrans.

The work is being funded entirely by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said his administration "is working hand-in- hand with President Obama's team to ensure stimulus dollars are pumped into California quickly and responsibly."
