Man killed, several children injured in car crash near University Park

A man was killed and several others – including young children – were hurt in a car crash on the 10 Freeway near University Park. Karma Dickerson reports for the NBC4 News on March 17, 2024.

At least one person was killed and several others, including a baby, were hurt Sunday following a car crash that has heavily impacted traffic on the 10 Freeway near University Park.

The crash was reported on the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near Hoover Street. There, a pickup truck and a Tesla – both with extensive damage – were seen on the side of the freeway as several first responders assessed the scene.

The five people who were hurt in the crash included:

  • a 3-month-old baby boy
  • a 6-year-old boy
  • a 7-year-old boy
  • a 10-year-old boy
  • a 29-year-old woman

The Los Angeles Fire Department described the severity of injuries from those who were hospitalized as "serious-to-critical." Another adult man was injured in the crash but did not require hospitalization.

Details on what caused the crash were not immediately clear. It is not known at this time when the scene will be cleared.

Authorities did not release the name of the deceased. LAFD only described that individual as an adult man.
