Detectives Suspect Man of Starting Blaze Near Station Fire

"He (was) sort of acting strangely, left the family, and they haven't seen him since.''

Homicide detectives want to question a Nigerian man about a small fire that erupted near the massive Station Fire that killed two firefighters.

Babatunsin Olukunle, 25, was seen in the area of the Aug. 22 Lady Bug Fire.

"We're the ones handling the Station Fire... and in the course of our investigation, this Lady Bug Fire came up,''  L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. Lt. Liam Gallagher said. "It's only six miles away from where the Station Fire was set and about six days prior to, so naturally we want to talk to Mr. Olukunle to see what he has to say about that fire."

Olukunle is a Nigerian national who arrived in the United States with his family in 1999.

"During our investigation of the Station Fire, we received tips from the public that there was a male black transient that was seen for several months prior to the fire going up and down Angeles Crest Highway,'' Gallagher said.

Olukunle is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds and speaks with a very heavy Nigerian accent.

"He was student at UC Davis up until 2007,'' Gallagher said. "He came home from UC Davis on his summer break, and (was) sort of acting strangely, left the family, and they haven't seen him since.''
