Tanker Crash Kills 1 in Rosemead

A tanker collided with a sedan, killing the woman driving. Beverly White reports for the NBC4 News at 11 on Monday, June 27, 2016.

Neighbors and distraught family members crowded onto the closest available sidewalk in the aftermath a deadly tanker crash Monday night in Rosemead.

Just after 5 p.m., a tanker collided with a car, killing the woman in her 30s, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The tanker traveling on Potrero Grande Drive slammed into the car as the sedan was crossing San Gabriel Boulevard, fire officials said.

"The truck did do a lot of damage to the passenger vehicle,” said Lieutenant Ignacio Somoano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple station.

The tanker ended up pushing the car all the way through the intersection and into a pole.

A hazardous material team responded just in case the tanker, used to haul recycled restaurant grease, somehow sprang a leak, though no leak was reported.

The tanker driver was taken to the hospital. The driver was shaken up, but expected to be OK.
