Firefighters Knock Down Blaze at Downtown Los Angeles Building

More than 120 firefighters attacked a fire Tuesday Feb. 9, 2016 in downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District.

Firefighters knocked down a fire at a commercial building in downtown Los Angeles that ripped through the roof and sent black smoke billowing into the sky Tuesday morning.

The blaze was reported at 7:40 a.m. at 1361 Newton St. (map), a one-story structure that possibily houses a lighting business near the neighborhood's Fashion District, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was confined to the building and knocked down in less than 45 minutes, officials said. Heavy damage was reported throughout.

More than 120 firefighters battled the blaze, one of whom was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury from a fall, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

No other injuries were reported.
