A husband and wife were tied up in their home Wednesday morning when robbers entered their home pretending to work for the gas company. Police are still searching for two attackers who snagged some $10,000 in cash. Michelle Valles reports from Westchester for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2012.
The search continued Wednesday night for two men with guns who posed as utility company workers to enter a residence before restraining the couple in a Westchester robbery.
Officers responded Wednesday morning to the 7400 block of El Manor Avenue after receiving the 9:30 a.m. report.
The men, wearing orange work vests, knocked on the residence's door and told the couple inside that they were with the gas company, police said. The men told the couple they needed to check the gas meter.
"They came up with a story that there was a valve that they needed to look at," said Lt. Ed Pape, of the LAPD. "Once inside the location they tied them up with straps on the hands covered their mouths."
One of the residents was told to open a safe, and he was struck in the face with a gun, according to police. The victim was hospitalized, but details regarding his condition were not immediately available.
The getaway vehicle was described as a white Chevy Malibu.
