Police in Santa Ana are looking for the driver of a car that struck three teenage pedestrians late Friday afternoon. Three teenagers were struck by a driver who crashed their vehicle a few blocks from the incident then fled the scene Friday afternoon in Santa Ana, police said.
The teens, which were reportedly carrying unopened bottles of beer, were crossing the street at an unmarked crosswalk at about 5 p.m. near Fifth and Susan streets (map).
One car stopped for them, but a second vehicle swerved around the stopped car and plowed through the group, said Anthony Bertagna with Santa Ana Police. All three were dragged, some ending up on the hood of the car.
The suspect car, a Honda two-door coupe, was found ditched about five blocks away at Fifth and Figueroa streets, Bertagna said. The Honda was damaged and identified by two witnesses as the car involved in the crash.
Police are searching for the driver, described only as a man in his early 20s who was wearing a baseball cap.
All three victims -- described as 15-, 16- and 18-year-old males -- were transported to the hospital and are listed in serious condition, Bertagna said.
Investigators do not think the victims were drinking.
