Police on Friday were searching for the driver of a dark-colored sport utility vehicle who struck and killed a 60-year-old bicyclist in North Hills.

The bicyclist was killed at 2 a.m. near Nordhoff Street and Gaviota Avenue, said LAPD Capt. Capt. Ivan Minsal, of the Valley Traffic Division.

Both the victim and the SUV were headed east on Nordhoff, police said.

Witnesses reported that the victim bounced off the windshield of the SUV, which was described as possibly black or blue Ford or Chevrolet, police said. The SUV likely has damage to the front grill, the windshield and roofrack, police said.

The vehicle had dark, tinted rear windows and lighter tint on the side windows. It was unknown if the driver is male or female.

The victim was thrown into a planter in front of an auto parts store, according to a news photographer at the scene.

Minsal said the bicyclist was wearing a helmet and the bike had reflectors and lights.
