One man died and four people were injured in an Echo Park home fire. Melissa Etezadi reports for the NBC4 News on Saturday July 4, 2015.

A 40-year-old man died and two people suffered critical injuries Saturday morning in a fire at an Echo Park home.

The deceased man was found inside the single story home, rented by several nightclub employees who had arrived home from work a few hours before the fire started. More than 50 firefighters responded to the location just west of Echo Park Lake in the 800 block of North Alvarado Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Five of the home's six residents, two of whom are related, were home at the time.

Four injured victims included two men in critical condition. A firefighter suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 30 minutes.

A cause was not immediately determined. The home was equipped with smoke detectors, but it was not immediately clear whether they were operational.
