Ice Watch on I-5, I-15

A strong storm cell pelted Los Angeles Monday, causing a spike in wrecks and some flooding and heavy snow in the local mountains.

Intense rain that started about 6 a.m. flooded the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area, closing Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. At least an inch of rain fell in most spots until about 9 a.m., when the rain let up.

California Highway Patrol officers closed the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles Sunday night and stayed busy with wrecks across the region through Monday's early morning hours. That section of I-5 was reopened later Monday afternoon.

It’s expected that there will be icy conditions early Tuesday morning at both the Grapevine and on Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass.
