Local Pregnancy Centers Violating State Law: LA City Attorney

State law requires centers to notify women about abortions the state offers

The Los Angeles City Attorney notified three crisis pregnancy centers that they are violating a new law requiring women be notified of all available options when making a decision about an unplanned pregnancy.

California's Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency Act requires licensed pregnancy facilities notify women about low-cost or free abortions the state offers.

It also requires unlicensed facilities to disclose they are not able to provide medical care.

An attorney representing the pregnancy centers said the law is violating the center's freedom of speech, forcing the centers to promote something that violates their core beliefs. Critics of the 189 crisis pregnancy centers say their goal is to influence women against abortions.

So far, the city attorney has notified Pregnancy Counseling Center in Mission Hills, Los Angeles Pregnancy Center in MacArthur Park and Harbor Pregnancy Help Center in Wilmington. They have 30 days to correct the violations, or they will face a civil penalty fine.
