A woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter after a crash in Torrance

A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk, manslaughter and hit-and-run charges after she allegedly hit a mortally wounded pedestrian and drove with him lodged in her windshield for 2 miles before witnesses forced her to stop, police said on Sunday.

The crash happened near the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Madrid Avenue at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Mark Athan, with the Torrance Police Department.

Sherri Wilkins, 51, of Torrance, was booked into jail on suspicion of drunken driving, manslaughter and felony hit and run, Athan said.

Wilkins drove for about 2 miles with the man atop the car, until witnesses persuaded her to stop near Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street, he said.

Paramedics rushed Moreno to an area hospital, where he died, according to a department statement.

He was identified as Phillip Moreno, 31 also of Torrance.

Wilkins was charged in 2010 with DUI and leaving the scene of a crash that caused damage to either property or a vehicle, according to according to Los Angeles Superior Court records online.
