Man Shot By Deputies: “Prepared to Go to War”

The incident happened late Saturday in Lancaster

A man clad in chest armor and saying he was “prepared to go to war” was shot and injured by LA Sheriff’s deputies at Lake Los Angeles, officials said Sunday.

Detectives were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting reported Saturday in the 39600 block of 167th Street East.

The shooting began after deputies had responded to a home in the 16000 block of MacKenna's Gold Avenue where a 60-year-old woman told deputies that her son Matthew Ridgway, 29, had beaten her up and threatened her with a rifle.

Before deputies could contact Ridgway, they saw him run out of the back of the home.

Deputies found him hiding in a neighbor’s shed where the shooting occurred.

Ridgway was treated for unspecified wounds and then booked into jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.

He’s expected to appear at the Antelope Valley Municipal Court on Monday.
