Metro bus and train fares in Los Angeles jumped 25 cents on Monday.
The fares increased from $1.50 to $1.75, according to Metro.net.
There is a silver lining: if paying with a TAP card, the rider gets two hours of transfers for free during a single trip.
The TAP card is a reusable fare card a commuter taps at the turnstile to pay for each ride.
About 26 percent of riders still pay with cash, with half of them making transfers during their trips, according to Metro.
If paying with cash however, each transfer is 50 cents. By switching to a TAP card, the riders could save money, according to Metro.
A day pass increased from $5 to $7, a weekly pass increased from $20 to $25, and a 30-day pass increased from $75 to $100.
