Metro Phasing in TAP Cards

Commuters will use the cards to unlock turnstiles.

Metro is switching its pay system from paper tickets to plastic "TAP cards."

Commuters will use the cards to unlock turnstiles.

This fall Metro will start locking turnstiles.

Last year, Metro temporarily locked turnstiles in order to test how passengers reacted.

During the trial run, sales at ticket vending machines jumped up to 22 percent.

Metro will begin phasing in the new EZ transit pass system -- the monthly pass good for travel on 25 different public transit carriers throughout Los Angeles County on Sept. 1.

Metro officials say it will make it easier for customers to travel without transfers, renew their passes each month and replace their cards, should they be lost of stolen.
