A pilot was killed when a small plane struck a building and crashed Friday morning in a Ventura County strawberry field.
The small plane, which took off from Camarillo Airport, clipped a building near the southbound side of the 101 Freeway and crashed into the field in Oxnard. Debris from the plane was found on top of the building.
A photo from the Ventura County Fire Department showed smoke rising from the crash site near the northbound side of the freeway at Del Norte Boulevard. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire.

"Firefighters report one potential fatality resulting from the small plane crash," the fire department said in a tweet.
Two urban search and rescue dogs were deployed to search the field for other possible victims. The pilot is believed the be the lone person aboard the plane.
Federal investigators identified the plane as a Mooney M20T. The plane was bound for Phoenix Deer Valley Airport in Arizona.
The freeway remains open.

Oxnard is about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
