The LAPD is hunting for a gunman who sprayed a car with bullets on the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood, injuring a mother in her 20s while her baby was also in the car. Jane Yamamoto reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2012.
A woman traveling with a baby in the car was shot in the torso while driving on the Hollywood (170) Freeway in North Hollywood Friday night, police said.
The shooting went down at about 7:10 p.m. near Sherman Way, according to Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Someone in a white vehicle -- possibly a Honda -- pulled up next to the victim's car and fired at least 10 rounds using a semi-automatic weapon, police said.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. There were no reports that her baby was injured, Joseph said.
As many as five people, including the baby, are believed to have been in the victim's white Nissan Sentra during the shooting, which police believe was not gang related.
An NBC4 photographer on the scene reported that a car seat inside the victim's white sedan appeared to have been grazed by a bullet. The back door and window on the driver's side also appeared to be riddled with bullet holes (pictured below).
Details about the gunman and the suspect vehicle were scarce late Friday. Police could only say they believed the shooter is a man in a white, foreign vehicle, possibly a Honda.
Joseph said the initial report from the scene noted the victim was driving on the southbound lanes, but aerial footage of the scene showed the victim's white sedan parked in the northbound lanes.

A SigAlert was issued for the two right lanes on the northbound side of the freeway, said Officer Tatiana Sauquillo of the California Highway Patrol.
The SigAlert has since been canceled.
