Possible DUI Driver Shuts Down 105 After Chase

After running over a strategically placed spike strip, the minivan started losing tires.

The driver of a beat-up, blue minivan led a chase in multiple cities across the LA area before eventually ending up in a standoff with deputies on the 105 Freeway Thursday afternoon.

The driver, suspected of driving while under the influence, fled from deputies in the Carson area around 2:30 p.m.

The blue Honda minivan Odyssey was first spotted by Carson Sheriff's station, who said a man was behind the wheel, possibly intoxicated.

The car then entered the South LA area around 3:30 p.m., weaving around residential streets, including Wall Street near 92nd.

The van ran over spike strips laid out by authorities, and three tires went flat, but he continued on just south of the 110 Freeway.

By 4 p.m., the driver lost control while traveling westbound on a nearly empty 105 Freeway. After stopping, the driver engaged in a standoff.
