A driver who was struck by a pursuit driver describes the horrific crash in Cerritos. Michelle Valles reports for NBC4 News at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 9, 2022.

A high-speed chase in southern Los Angeles County ended in a horrific crash at an intersection in the Cerritos area.

The driver was swerving in and out of freeway lanes before exiting onto streets. The driver ran several red lights in the Long Beach and Lakewood areas before slamming into the passenger side of another car entering the intersection at Del Amo and Norwalk boulevards in Cerritos.

The apparently injured pursuit driver ran from the pickup, but fell to the ground and was taken into custody.

The 18-year-old driver in the car that was struck was not injured. He was on his way to his mother's house and had no idea about the chase, he said.

"I was just driving, listening to music and then all of the sudden, boom," he said. "I was like, 'Bro, how you going to crash into my car? I'm out here standing perfectly and then you're going to cry like a little baby?'

"I'm not upset. I'm just thinking about what I'm going to do after this. I'll be fine."

At least one other car was involved in the collision. Details about possible injuries to other drivers were not immediately available.
