A pursuit ended in the Hawthorne area when the suspect ran away from the vehicle and police quickly took him into custody on Monday, Jan. 2, 2016.
An armed suspect who led police on a two-hour car chase Monday afternoon is in custody.
The driver of the dark-colored sedan led police on a chase in the north San Fernando Valley and then got on the San Diego (405) Freeway, exiting at Santa Monica Boulevard at one point, before ending the chase on foot in Gardena.
At 2:35 p.m. he was traveling north on Balboa Boulevard approaching the 5 Freeway.
Earlier in the chase, the driver stopped in Sun Valley and it appeared there would be a standoff before continuing to drive.
The newer model Nissan still had paper license plates.
About 2:45 p.m. pursuing officers on the ground pulled off of the chase, but a police helicopter continued to monitor the driver's location.
The pursuit started up again a short time later and finally ended around 4 p.m. when the suspect ran on the sidewalk in the 13000 block of Crenshaw Boulevard before kneeling and apparently praying to a higher power.

He was then taken into custody.
No injuries were reported during the chase.
