Driver Jumps Out of Rolling Car After SoCal Freeway Pursuit

Aerial video showed an officer sprint toward the car as it rolled down the street

A California Highway Patrol squad car performed a PIT maneuver on a car whose driver led officers on a high-speed pursuit on freeways and surface streets Tuesday, June 10, 2014. The car nearly rolled away before an officer jumped in to stop it.

A driver jumped out of his Toyota Camry and laid on the ground as the car slowly rolled away after leading police on a short pursuit on Southern California freeways Tuesday evening.

The chase began after the vehicle was reported stolen, Los Alamitos Police Sgt. Sean Connelly said.

The driver led officers down the 405 Freeway before exiting onto surface streets in Long Beach.

Officers used a PIT maneuver to spin the Camry to a stop before the man jumped out of his car and laid on the ground with his arms over his head.

Aerial video showed the Camry roll slowly away after the man jumped out as an officer sprinted to the car to stop it.

The man was taken into custody about 7:10 p.m.
