Suspect who allegedly shot soldier at a homecoming party turned himself in to authorities this afternoon. NBC4’s Craig Fiegener reports.
Police arrested the man Monday suspected of shooting and critically wounding a soldier who was attending his own welcome home party from Afghanistan.
Suspect Ruben Ray Jurado, joined by an attorney, turned himself in Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chino Hills Sheriff’s Station.
Army Spec. Christopher Sullivan was at his welcome home party Friday night in the 2800 block of North Garner Avenue when he tried to break up an argument that involved his brother. He was shot in the neck and buttocks, according to his mother.
By Monday evening, Sullivan was reportedly paralyzed and on life support.
“He went to defend his brother and the guy pulled out a gun,” said his mother Suzanne Sullivan. That argument was over football, according to police.
“I heard a lot of yelling then a pop and I could tell, I knew it was a gun,” said neighbor Cyndi Jasper.
Sullivan was recovering from a suicide bombing attack that occurred last December in Afghanistan. He is a Purple Heart recipient.

Jurado is expected to be charged with attempted murder by the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is being handled by the San Bernardino Police Station.
