Southwest Airlines Computer Glitch Fixed

A computer system outage caused dozens of flights to be delayed Friday night

A computer system outage caused flight delays for Southwest Airlines flights across the West Coast, the company said. Hundreds, if not thousands, of travelers were stuck at LAX – some in grounded airplanes. Kim Baldonado reports from LAX for NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Southwest Airlines flights were back in the air after hours of delays caused by a computer system outage, the company said Friday night.

The outage mostly affected flights on the West Coast. The problem began about 8 p.m. and was resolved just after 11 p.m.

"A system outage has caused us to hold departing flights. Flights in the air are not affected by this. All hands on deck to resolve," the company tweeted when the problem began.

At Los Angeles International Airport, 13 outbound flights were kept on the ground. Another 12 flights that were headed for LAX were also delayed.

The outage has also affected three departing flights at LA/Ontario International Airport.
