Gusty winds are knocking down trees and power lines, with Orange County especially hard hit. A high wind warning is in effect through Saturday afternoon.
A cold low pressure system over northwestern Mexico continued to produce damaging offshore wind gusts Friday evening through the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

The canyons and passes were the most susceptible to heavy winds, with the possibility of gusts upwards of 70 miles an hour. The valleys received sporadic gusts as well.
High wind warnings remain in effect until 3 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service reported.
Santa Ana winds blew through the Southland earlier Friday, causing downed trees, business signs and power lines.
At one point there were over 1,600 without power in the city of Santa Ana, all of which have been restored.
On Greenwood Street firefighters, knowing better than to put water on an electrical line, could only stand back and protect the homes next to the flame.
The Santa Ana Fire Department cautioned people to keep an eye out above, and if they saw any wire down on the ground to stay away and call 911.
At Disney’s California Adventure a few rides were shut down due to the high winds.
