Victoria Castellanos, 17, of Temple City High School, was crowned the 99th Rose Queen for the Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016.
Temple City High School senior Victoria Cecilia Castellanos was crowned Thursday as the 2017 Rose Queen.
Castellanos, who will be the parade's 99th queen, was chosen from among the seven members of the Royal Court.
The members of the court were selected earlier this month from a field of more than 1,000 applicants.
Castellanos has been a part of Brighterside Singers since her sophomore year and has been in five Temple City High School musicals. She volunteers with the Pasadena Humane Society and the American Legion in Eagle Rock.
Castellanos enjoys writing short stories, reading, painting, collecting antiques and thrift shopping with her mother. She plans to study English, musical theater and Japanese and would like to attend Amherst College or Smith College.
Castellanos and the six princesses will make nearly 100 community and media appearances, culminating with the 128th Rose Parade and the 103rd Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 2. The theme of the parade will be ''Echoes of Success.''
The game and parade will be held Jan. 2, because Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday.

The selection was announced at a ceremony in the Pasadena Convention Center, with NBC4 anchor Chuck Henry and 1988 Rose Queen Julie Myers King as masters of ceremonies.
Members of the court are chosen based on criteria including public speaking ability, poise, academic achievement and community and school involvement.
The six princesses are:
-- Maya Khan, 18, Arcadia High School;
-- Natalie Petrosian, 17, La Canada High School;
-- Audrey Cameron, 17, Blair High School;
-- Autumn Lundy, 17, Polytechnic School;
-- Lauren Powers, 17, Arcadia High School;
-- Shannon Larsuel, 17, Mayfield Senior School.
