Pursuit Driver Arrested After Freeway Standoff

The driver of a smashed up blue Chrysler was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a lengthy standoff on a freeway in Long Beach.

A SWAT team was called in to assist with that standoff that started after a pursuit on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway at Cherry Avenue in the Paramount/North Long Beach area.

The driver led police on a pursuit in the downtown LA area before making his way to the Paramount/Long Beach area. He crashed into two vehicles before stopping in freeway lanes, car disabled.

The driver was wanted in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon, police said. But the driver blew through a red light and crashed into a driver on Central.

The crash didn't stop the driver, though. And he got back onto the 91 Freeway and kept going until he hit a truck, spinning it around.

With the damage done to the Chrysler, the driver pulled over on the freeway, bringing traffic to a standstill at 3:14 p.m.

Authorities closed traffic on both sides of the 91 Freeway near the Cherry exit.
