West Covina Police Seek Gas Station Assailant

A man was captured on surveillance video assaulting a woman working at a 76 station.

Police are hoping that surveillance footage will help catch an attacker who beat up a 50-year-old gas station attendant in West Covina on Sunday. Stephanie Elam reports from West Covina for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2012.

Police in West Covina have released a video they say shows a man robbing a gas station convenience store and beating up a woman who was working there.

The Sept. 23 incident at a 76 station on N. Vincent Ave. was captured on surveillance video, Cpl. Rudy Lopez said Thursday.

It shows a man strolling the aisles of the convenience store and talking with the clerk. Then it shows him walking over to her and repeatedly punching her.

Later in the video, the 50-year-old attendant gets down on the ground and the man leaves.

Lopez said police need help identifying the assailant, who took a large sum of cash from the register.

“At this point, we don’t have any leads,” he said.

The man is white, between 30 and 40 years old and between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10,” Lopez said.
