Police were wondering where a gunman was after they entered a West Hollywood apartment following a supposed hourslong standoff, only to find that the alleged shooter was nowhere to be found.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it all started around 8:50 a.m., when two bullets pierced the wall of a woman’s apartment, striking her in the upper and lower body. The shooter was supposedly holed up in an apartment, but when SWAT officers entered around 5 p.m., all they found were dogs.
A person of interest was identified by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department as 31-year-old Joshua Findley.
The shooting was reported on the 7000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

Deputies responded to the apartment after residents reported screaming and loud bangs, the sheriff's department said. Deputies found a woman in her 50s suffering from two gunshot wounds in one of the residences.
Several bullet holes were in the victim's front door. The rounds appeared to have been fired from the apartment located across the hall from the victim's.

The victim was struck twice, deputies said. Authorities said it's not clear whether the shooting was accidental or the woman was targeted.
The shooting prompted a large police response. At one point, a sheriff’s department helicopter landed on the street to deploy more SWAT officers to the supposed standoff.
Streets in the neighborhood remained closed as the search for the gunman continued.
