Rain from a winter storm is expected to continue late into Sunday. NBC4’s Shanna Mendiola has the forecast for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.
The Southland got a mild rinsing Saturday, as a warm winter storm dropped gentle rain across most areas.
By midday, less than .05 inches of rain had fallen at most reporting stations. A total of .08 inches was measured at a station in the hills north of Malibu, and .07 inches were recorded near the Springs Fire perimeter at Decker Canyon.
The highest total in the county was the .08 inches measured in the mountains above Pacoima. Most of the area had enjoyed drizzle, and had totals of less than .05 inches.
But heavy rain was falling in the noon hour at Zuma Beach, as a line of heavier clouds blew in from the ocean. The South Bay and coastal Orange County also appeared to be getting heavy rain.
The National Weather Service called for the widespread rain to turn to scattered showers Saturday night in Los Angeles County. But after midnight, widespread and heavier rain was expected.
Orange County, however, was given only a 20 percent chance for rain and widely scattered showers.
Sunday will see scattered showers in Los Angeles County, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
