A woman was killed in South LA Wednesday night while visiting family for Christmas. Police believe her killer or killers may have driven away in a dark truck after firing six shots. Gadi Schwartz reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2013.

Police were asking for the public's help to find out who shot and killed a Southern California woman on Wednesday while she was visiting South Los Angeles for Christmas, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The woman, 24, of Pomona, was struck by gunfire in a drive-by shooting in the 700 block of East 87th Street in South LA about 5 p.m., officers from the LAPD South Bureau Homicide Division said.

"It's terrible when we lose anyone in Los Angeles, but especially on Christmas," LAPD Officer Jeff Nolte said. "While we're running around from our family to the next stop, these people are devastated by this."

The victim, also a mother, came to South LA for a Christmas party, and she is not involved in any gang activity, police said.

After the shooting, family members rushed her to a hospital, where she died.

Police believe the shooter or shooters may have driven away in a dark pickup truck after firing about six shots.
