A man was killed after he was shot multiple times next to his van in a Bell Gardens neighborhood while he was out on a recycling run collecting bottles and cans. A man was shot and killed Wednesday night while collecting recyclables in a Bell Gardens neighborhood, sheriff's homicide detectives said.

A 36-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was discovered at around 11:51 p.m. in an alley in the 6000 block of Buell Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau.

It appears the victim had been in the alley looking for cans, bottles or scrap metal when he was killed, she said.

The suspect and murder weapon are outstanding, she said.

Sheriff's detectives were assisting the Bell Gardens Police Department in the investigation.
