Man Shot by Deputies in Camarillo Had Knife

Cellphone showed a deadly confrontation between a deputy and a man apparently holding a knife. Gadi Schwartz reports for NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015.

A Ventura County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man on Wednesday that authorities said lunged at him with a knife, officials said.

The shooting was reported before noon Wednesday when deputies arrived to the 250 block of Carmen Drive on a report of a disturbance, said Sgt. Denise Sliva, a spokeswoman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, which patrols the city of Camarillo.

A deputy fired at the man who authorities said charged at him with a knife.

"When our deputy arrived and made contact with the subject, the subject, male adult, did have a knife concealed in his waistband," Sliva said. "He produced the knife and advanced deputy. This resulted in a deputy involved shooting."
