Man Shot to Death in El Monte Possibly Targeted: Police

Detectives are looking for two men in their 20s.

A young father who family members say was trying to turn his life around was shot to death outside his El Monte home. Lolita Lopez reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.

Police say a man who was shot to death Tuesday in a residential area of El Monte was possibly targeted.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 a.m. in the 9800 block of Giovane Street.

The man, who has not yet been identified by the coroner's office, was trying to turn his life around, police said.

Neighbors told NBC4 that the man in his early 20s had a wife and a baby who was just a few months old.

Ramon Aldana, who lives across the street, said he saw a man get out of a car and approach his neighbor.

Aldana told NBC4 that three shots were fired before the driver and passenger drove off in a light colored, gray car.

"It looks like somebody, for whatever reason, ran up behind him as he was trying to get into his vehicle and shot him multiple times," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.
