City of Calistoga Removes Gay Pride Flag

A gay pride flag recently went up at city hall, but is now gone and won’t be back anytime soon. Jean Elle reports.

The City of Calistoga on Monday took down a gay pride flag from city hall after it received complaints from residents.

Mayor Chris Canning says the complaints were about the process, or the lack of public process, of why the flag was raised and not about the symbol.

Officials raised the flag on Friday after a resident suggested at a recent council meeting the city fly the flag during Pride.

"In fairness we didn't give it full vetting during public comment," Canning says.

Some in town say it's a ridiculous debate, while others say the city council was wrong to exclude the public.

Canning says he is disappointed but understands the concerns. The council now plans to develop a statement flag policy.
