Motorcycle Pursuit Started in Whittier Races Through San Diego County

Everntually the motorcycle ran out of gas and CHP officers took the driver into custody.

NBC 7’s Greg Bledsoe reports on the pursuit that began in the Los Angeles-area but ended on a San Diego highway.

A motorcycle driver leading police on a pursuit from Whittier into San Diego County was arrested after he ran out of gas, officials said.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver consistently maintained speeds upwards of 90 mph, and at one point exceeded 130 mph, during the chase on interstates 605, 5 and 805.

The driver was taken into custody on southbound I-805 south of Imperial Avenue at around 10:45 p.m.

CHP officers said the initial traffic stop was because a patrol officer believed the motorcycle rider was driving under the influence.
