There’s a new twist in the Steven vs. Jodi battle happening in the wake of Netflix’s wildly popular series “Making a Murderer."
A local news station in Milwaukee received a handwritten letter from Steven Avery on Thursday, in which he responds to ex-fiancée Jodi Stachowski’s explosive allegation that Avery beat and threatened to kill her.
In the three-page letter, Avery maintains his innocence.
“Here, put this on and I will talk to you,” the handwritten portion of the letter begins. “And do an investigation of the sheriff of Manitowoc County”
Avery became the focus of national attention after “Making a Murderer” debuted on Netflix last month. The series documents Avery’s 18 years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit, and his subsequent arrest on murder charges in a separate case.
He is currently serving life in prison for the murder of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach, but filed an appeal earlier this month. On Jan. 13, Stachowski, who adamantly defended Avery in the series, said in an interview that she now believes Avery committed the murder because he abused her, even threatening to kill her by throwing a blow-dryer into the tub while she was taking a bath.
“How much money Jodi get to talk bad!” Avery wrote in his letter this week, adding, “The State $”

The letter also includes a typed statement that reads, "The real killer is still out there. Who is he stalking now? I am really innocent of this case and that is the truth!!! The truth will set me free!!!!!!!”
“See if you can come up here to talk, OK?” he continued, but the Department of Corrections have denied all requests for interviews with Avery.
