One Man Dead, One Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Crash in Hancock Park

A man suspected of striking a pedestrian while driving a pickup was killed when his truck collided with another vehicle in Hancock Park as he was fleeing the scene of the first crash. Gordon Tokumatsu reports for the NBC4 News at 4 on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017.

One man died and another was transported to the hospital after a hit-and-run driver collided with another vehicle on Wednesday in Hancock Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division.

The driver of a white pickup truck struck a pedestrian Wednesday near Beverly Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, then fled westbound on Beverly Boulevard. Driving at over 70 mph, the pickup truck collided with a blue vintage Ford Bronco traveling northbound on Highland Avenue.

Investigators said they found empty beer cans inside the hit-and-run driver's vehicle.

Witnesses said the driver of the white pickup truck was ejected from his vehicle. He died at the scene.

The other driver was taken to a nearby hospital and suffered fractured ribs. He is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities said the pedestrain who was struck by the hit-and-run driver was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The impact of the collision was so powerful, a piece of metal flew into a nearby residence and onto a child's crib.

A child was in the crib but was not struck by the object, according to authorities.

The collision was reported just before 1 a.m. near Beverly Boulevard and Highland Avenue. Both streets have been closed until further notice.
