Pedestrian Killed on 5 Freeway Prompts Lane Closures

Officers closed two lanes on the 5 Freeway early Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision was reported around 12:52 a.m. on the Northbound 5 Freeway near State Street in Boyle Heights, according to the CHP.

The victim, a man in his 50s, died at the scene, according to the CHP.

Two right lanes were shut down until further notice, according to the CHP.

The driver who struck the man stayed at the scene. It was unclear why the man was on the freeway, according to the CHP.
