A gunman pistol-whipped an employee Monday morning after breaking into a TGI Fridays restaurant form which he stole about thousands of dollars in cash, according to investigators.
Three employees were in the Woodland Hills restaurant at the time of the break-in, which occurred about an hour after the business closed. Police received a call around 3 a.m. about a robber armed with a silver handgun.
The intruder disabled phone lines and took the employees' cell phones, said LAPD Lt. Scott Harrelson.
Police arrived and checked every part of the restaurant for the robber. As a precaution, police handcuffed all employees before escorting them out of the restaurant in case the robber was hiding among the employees.
Employees were still at the restaurant at 3 a.m. because TGI Fridays restaurants are open until 2 a.m. on Sundays.
No arrests were reported.
