NewsConference: California's Proposition 16—Brings Back to Affirmative Action

Proposition 16 is one of the twelve propositions on the California ballot this November. In 1996 voters passed Prop. 209 which halted the consideration of a person’s race, gender or ethnicity in state hiring, contracts and admissions to the UC and Cal State University System. Today affirmative action is back on the ballot. Prop. 16, if passed, diversity would once again be “factor in public employment, education and contract decisions”. It would be a constitutional amendment. NBC4’s Conan Nolan talks to both sides.
