Strong Rip Currents at SoCal Beaches Expected Through Cool Memorial Day Weekend

Temperatures weren’t expected ti top 70 degrees on the day before Memorial Day. NBC4 meteorologist Shanna Mendiola has the forecast for Sunday, May 24, 2015.

A strong swell brings a risk of rip currents to Los Angeles and Ventura County beaches through Memorial Day, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

Surf would only be three to four feet, the NWS said, but the rip currents could sweep people off their feet and pull them to sea.

"Don't turn your back to the coast," NBC4 meteorologist Shanna Mendiola said, echoing NWS advice to only swim at beaches with lifeguards.

The weather Sunday and Monday wasn't expected to be very enticing to beachgoers, with forecast highs in the high 60s.
