Teen's Body Found Along San Gabriel Riverbed in South El Monte

A 17-year-old boy was found dead in an El Monte riverbed after he failed to show up to school. Beverly White reports for the NBC4 News at 11 on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Heartbroken loved ones of a 17-year-old boy gathered Wednesday near a San Gabriel riverbed in South El Monte after the teen's body was found by his friends earlier in the day.

The boy's father reported him missing and was searching for him after the teen failed to go to school.

"His friends were out looking for him as well and ended up finding him here in the riverbed," said Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau.

El Monte police responded to Parkway Drive and Thienes Avenue in the Avocado Heights area at around 4:45 p.m. They initially responded to the report of a stabbing, and then the body was discovered.

The teen's death is being investigated as a homicide.
