Officer Struck by Patrol Vehicle After Call for Backup

The patrol vehicle was responding to a backup call after an attempted traffic stop

The officer was attempting to chase down a subject who left a traffic stop when he was struck by a patrol vehicle responding to a call for backup. Annette Arreola reports for Today in LA.

A San Gabriel Police Department officer suffered  minor injuries when he was struck by a police cruiser from his department  at the end of a foot pursuit, authorities said Tuesday.

The officer, who was not identified, was hospitalized with injuries to his leg and hand after he chased the subject in the 1900 block of South Del Mar  Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Monday, a San Gabriel Police Department statement said. The man had paper license plates on his motorcycle and the officer planned to question him regarding his registration, police said.

The subject drove off during the attempted traffic stop, according to police. He got off the motorcycle and ran past a responding patrol vehicle, whic struck the officer, police said.

The officer's injuries are not considered life threatening. He was treated for hand and leg injuries at the scene and transported to a hospital.

No arrests were reported early Tuesday.
