Missing 76-Year-Old Woman From Somis Found

A 76-year-old woman who went missing from her home Sunday while on a walk was found Wednesday in an avocado orchard.

Crews searched for Judith Wurtz, who goes by Judy, after she was last seen on her family's property located in the 5200 block of Faircrest Lane in Somis around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Somis is located north of Camarillo.

Her family reported her missing at 6 p.m. after searching their property and her typical walking routes.

Wurtz has dementia, "but is otherwise in good health," Ventura County sheriffs said in a statement. Although she is an avid hiker, she usually stays close to her home.

On Wednesday, Ventura County sheriffs tweeted they were continuing their search "with no leads" to Wurtz's whereabouts. Later in the day, a caller found Wurtz in an avocado orchard on Old Balcom Canyon Road, about five and half miles away from where she was last seen.

She was airlifted to a hospital.
