Dodgers Hope Third Offer to Manny Ramirez Is a Charm

We've been down this road before with Manny Ramirez. First, the Dodgers offered him a $60 million deal over three years (with a club option on that third year), which Scott Boras thought was hilarious. Then it was a $25 million contract for one year, which Manny turned down.

The Dodgers went back to the drawing board, and they hope that this offer is the one that gets a bite. It's still a one-year $25 million deal, but this one includes a player option for a second season at $20 million.

The key is that the player option for the second season came at the request of Boras. Now that the Dodgers have given that to him, is this finally the offer that gets it done? It would have to be, no? Time is growing short, and as you can plainly see the offers haven't been exactly flooding in this winter for the high priced slugger. So I don't see how much more Ramirez and Boras can ask for.

Then again, who knows. The only thing we know is that the Dodgers themselves would like this to be over, with an outcome that includes Ramirez in Dodger blue, and not just an impersonator.

Before taking the field in a game that they lost to the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, several Dodgers directed their attention to a man behind their dugout who had shoulder-long dreadlocks and looked like Ramirez.

"Hey, Manny, we need you!" Casey Blake shouted.

"Hey, Manny, we have to stretch!" Delwyn Young said.

Clearly, the lack of Ramirez, along with the Arizona heat, is getting to the Dodgers.
