Vault Explosion Cuts Power to Thousands of Panorama City Residents

Thousands of residents in Panorama City were without power after an electrical vault explosion. Rick Montanez reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017.

An explosion inside one or two underground electrical vaults tonight cut power to about 1,300 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in Panorama City.

The explosion occurred about 8:20 p.m. at 9009 N. Tobias Ave., said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The explosion produced smoke billowing up from the vaults, Bastman said.

The LADWP sent crews to the scene which have begun repairs, the department's Christy Holland said.

The power was restored early Saturday morning, according to the DWP.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, Holland said.
